Your Newborn Session

So you booked you session now what?

Via email you will be receiving a questionnaire that will help me get to know you and your family. It will also give me information on where you live and how to communicate with you the day of the shoot, please read through and fill it out.

I am excited to capture you and your loved ones. Custom photography is unique because it not only captures what you and your family look like at a certain point in time, it capture who you are and are growing to be. The goal is not to get a stiff and posed shots, but to capture the true essence of your Love. I take a documentary approach to photography and use my understanding of my equipment and natural light to create images that will become works of art that you can hang in your home. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your session with me.

Location: Newborn shoot are in home photo sessions. Being in your own home allows for an intimate and personal feel. It also allows your new baby to be in a familiar environments that is warm and will keep them protected from the elements.

Time: In home sessions are done in the morning at 9am. This is usually when homes are lit best. It is also when babies are calm and sleep the most.

Length of Session: Sessions are usually up to an hour long. I rarely go over an hour. Don't worry this is enough time to get an adequate amount of photos for your gallery.

What about my home: Please don't worry about cleaning your home! We will be taking photos in a room with the most light. This could be the master bedroom, baby room, or living room. I can help clean up when I get there. I am a mom of four and I know what is like to give birth c-section and vaginally. I know both hurt so please if you can not move a lot don't worry about it. Tend to your new baby and other babies if you have them. When I arrive I can clear and make up the room we will be working in. Im here to help not to be an added stress.

What should I you wear: Outfits are completely your choice. With that being said wearing stripes, large logos or bright colors will take the viewers eye away from you (the subject). Together we are creating art that will show your love and what miracle it has created. Our goal is to make sure the viewers of your photos are looking at you! I do recommend that you wear Neutral plain clothes. I have created a page on Pinterest to help give you ideas on good outfits. They have some great choices if you'd like to do some browsing yourself. What should my baby wear? Baby should be in something simple. A simple white onesie or natural onesie work well. I know H&M has great neutral options if you are looking. Really any brand works. It is also okay to have a couple of outfit for baby to change into. I do like to pose baby in I diaper and sometime just as they are with out any clothes if its okay with parents. Bows and hats are welcome, so are wraps. I DO NOT bring any of these things they must be provided by the parent. Again if you would just like a simple white onesie I am all for it and the pictures turn out amazing in simple outfits.

Props: I do not bring anything but my camera and lenses to a shoot. If you would like to provide your own props please email me so I can get an idea of what you are imagining and we can come up with a solution together.

Your children: If your child/children are attending the session, remember children are not usually fond of being told to pose or smile. Instead think of ways to cuddle your child. Your goal should be to make them laugh whether its tickling, a little neck nussle, maybe blowing raspberries on their cheeks, smelling stinky feet and telling jokes. It is best to create a fun environment where they are playing and authentically laughing which turns into a smile right after. Allow your child to be themselves because that is ultimately what we want. Don't worry if your child is being active. I love to capture your children being themselves.

To get the family shots, I usually direct the adults to simply "be" with the child, or hold the child and we go from there. Family shot and shots with siblings are the first images taken. Usually a child is interested in what is going on and wants to be involved in the beginning. They will slowly lose interest and that is when they can walk in and out of shots as they choose.

To get the most out of your session, make sure your little one has rest and has had adequate snacks and water. Prepare your child/children for the session by letting them know that a friend will be taking some photos of them, its best not to surprise them.

I can't wait to capture you! Do not hesitate to email me questions you have. See you soon!
